Review: Greetings again from the darkness. Well, before you accuse me that the worst spell in the world, you should know that my water Wizzdom title is a play on words ... a water park in a movie called Water Wizz and Sam Rockwell plays Owen, a man-child mentor Liam James Duncan. Duncan's miserable 14-year-old stuck in a beach house with her mother, her obnoxious boyfriend and his snobbish daughter.Steve Carell plays Trent, a condescending and bullying guy who has some redeeming qualities that can be seen (besides the beach house and a nice tan ). Duncan's mother is played by Toni Collette, and her character Pam is divorced, insecure single mother trying to balance his own happiness with that of her teen-angst-filled son. Pam and Duncan outsiders in this beach community that we learn quickly when neighbor Betty (Allison Janney) shows with drink in hand and for all.The gossip and movie characters are wearing all here ... we recognize the characters and their struggles, actually , we all know someone like each of the people who co-writer and co-director trades Nat Faxon and Jim Rash moment for us. We understand quickly that this is a coming-of-age story with mostly clueless adults. Despite this, however, is done. The writing and acting is so good that even though we live in movie clich? Land, yet we find ourselves caring for Duncan and Pam, laughing at Owen, and throw tomatoes at Trent (Carell). Special tribute to Sam Rockwell. Although Duncan is the key character, Owen Rockwell, recognizing that faith and a little encouragement goes a long way. Behind the facade of rapid-fire jokes and laugh-inducing one-liners, is Owen come to terms with life in reality and crushed dreams. And never arrested the typical Hollywood won a speech Gipper, Owen fails to instill some confidence in Duncan ... to the point where he refuses to let his mother pretend that everything is fine with Trent.AnnaSophia Rob plays cute girl neighbor-who recognize the potential of Duncan, but the filmmakers never allow this to become a silly fairy tale. Instead, we have characters who were flawed, but real and recognizable. While typical all pieces are present, it is enough to shoot dialogue and quality that seems to help this growth over the usual muck. It's a nice little alternative to giant summer blockbusters. Nat Faxon and Jim Rash won an Oscar for co-writing the descendants of Alexander Payne. In his directorial debut, they show that they also have skills as filmmakers. The next time could be even better!
